Alicia C. Minter is Director of the City of Detroit Recreation Department and has faithfully served the City for twenty-one years. Ms. Minter began her career with the City in 1989 and held various titles in Recreation as well as in the Department of Public Works. In 1996, she became a Human Resource Officer. There, Ms. Minter, tirelessly worked her way through the ranks, garnering promotion to Human Resources Manager I, within her first four-year tenure. After having made her mark in Human Resources and leaving a legacy of impeccable integrity, in 2001 Ms. Minter joined the Detroit Recreation Department as Manager I of Belle Isle Park. She purposed to help restore Belle Isle to the jewel of its youth.
During her five years as Park Manager, Ms. Minter became Belle Isle's best friend, changing its fading reputation and improving its looks. Her contributions were paramount and she is credited with being instrumental in making Belle Isle Park the fun and exciting destination it is today. Her work with organizations on Belle Isle and her ability to establish public and private partnerships provided the proper environment for Belle Isle to flourish.
Attracting the attention of her superiors as she continually exemplified the strong work ethics instilled by her parents, Ms. Minter earned another promotion in 2007, this time as the Recreation Department General Manger of Operations. She was appointed to the Deputy Director in July of 2008. Additionally, Ms. Minter served as the Department's Interim Director before her most recent appointment as Department Director, in May of 2010.
Ms. Minter received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Wayne State University in 1996. She has remained a faithful servant to the community through diverse efforts including but not limited to her support for youth scholarships and programs. She accomplishes these goals by working with organizations such as Booker T. Washington Business Association, and, her church, Church of Our Father Missionary Baptist where Rev. Bernard Byles is pastor.
She is a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society, Michigan Recreation Parks Association, National Recreation Parks Association, Wayne State University Alumni and Student Fundraising, Belle Isle Women's Committee, and Booker T. Washington Business Association, where she serves as Committee Chair. In addition, Ms. Minter serves on several boards to include the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Northwest Community Programs, Inc, Historical Fort Wayne.
Her mantra, "Hire right and treat people fairly you will receive all that the Lord has in store for you," keeps her focused while on her journey.
