Dave Bing's basketball career began at Spingarn High School, Washington D.C., where he was a three-year letter winner and High School All American. At Syracuse University, Mr. Bing led Syracuse in scoring, had his number 22 retired, and was a College All American. In 1966, he joined the NBA as a first round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Mr. Bing was in the NBA for twelve years, during which time he played in eight NBA All Star Games and was named to the All-NBA First Team twice. He was voted one of the top 50 basketball players of all time, his number was the first one to be retired by the Detroit Pistons, and he was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1990. Currently, Dave Bing is the Chairman of "The Bing Group of Companies," which was formed in 1980 and is based in Detroit, Michigan. The Bing Group is comprised of Bing Metals Group-automotive suppliers providing slitting and stamping and Bing Metals-Assembly-automotive suppliers providing seat assembly. The Bing Group has 637 employees, with gross sales of $515 million. Mr. Bing serves as a Board Member or is on the Board of Directors for Detroit Renaissance, Economic Club of Detroit, MMBDC (Michigan Minority Business Development Council), NABAS (National Association of Black Automotive Suppliers), and University Preparatory Academy. He serves as a Board Member or is on the Board of Advisors for Detroit Black United Fund, Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, Junior Achievement, and Boy Scouts of America Council and is on the Board of Trustees for McGregor Fund and University of Detroit Mercy.
