David C. Moilanen was appointed director of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks on October 14, 2010. He had been serving as the park system's deputy director in charge of operations since he was appointed to that position March 11, 2006.

He initially worked part-time at Kensington Metropark, first as a golf course maintenance worker (1974), then as a naturalist at the nature center. He was hired full-time in 1980 as farm manager at Kensington Metropark's Farm Center. In 1991, he became the HCMA public relations/information officer and was named chief of interpretive services and public relations in 1999.

Moilanen holds bachelor's degrees in economics and natural resources from the University of Michigan and he has taken additional graduate coursework in law, public relations and journalism, zoology and biology.He, his wife, Cindy, who is an elementary school teacher, and their son, Dave, who attends Alma College, live in Genoa Township in Livingston County.
