Nancy Darga is a native of Detroit, Michigan and a graduate of Michigan State University. She is a licensed Landscape Architect. Nancy retired in 2004 as the Chief of Design for the Wayne County Parks Division which she served for more than 25 years. She is presently serving as both the Interim Managing Director and Chairman for MotorCities National Heritage Area. As one of the founding members of this congressionally enacted heritage area, she has served on its Board since 1998. She is currently serving on Northville City Council. Her term ends in 2011.
During her tenure with the County of Wayne she was one of the founding members of the Friends of the Rouge. For her efforts she was awarded the Friends of the Rouge Award in 1997. In 1999, Nancy was awarded the Michigan Public Servant of the Year Award by the Public Administration Foundation, Inc. for her extensive community outreach programs. For her continued work in historic preservation and heritage trail development she was awarded the Governor Swainson State of Michigan Historic Preservation, by the Michigan Department of Interior, May 2005.
