The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy

Green Initiatives

Protecting our shared environment is of fundamental importance to the Conservancy, as it is to our employees, and other stakeholders. To support this common goal, we have inacted the following "green" initiatives throughout several aspects of our business operation:

Ecology-based design
Native plants and season strategy; storm water management; tensile structures to reduce heat; soft shore engineering; non-motorized wheeled paths encourage walkability ("alternative transportation'')

Energy efficiency
Features that minimize energy requirements; new construction will use LED lamps

Accessibility
Going beyond ADA requirements to allow access for a fuller spectrum of barrier-free needs, including special attention to the needs of the elderly

Education
Providing ongoing learning opportunities

**Conservancy application for the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for its riverfront development project; LEED certification has been applied for and is being sought for the proposed pavilion at Mt. Elliott Park

We will make every effort to ensure that environmental performance is an integral part of:
