In celebration of local art, Soirée will feature a variety of featured, Detroit-based artists.
Louise "Ouizi” Jones, featured muralist
Louise Jones is a second generation Chinese-American, Detroit based fine artist & muralist. Her work first gained recognition after moving to Detroit in 2014, where she began painting murals of flowers on buildings and local businesses. To date, her murals have been displayed in museums and public spaces throughout the US and the world, including the Henry Ford Cancer Pavilion, the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. She currently works in the public and private sectors simultaneously; completing floral mural commissions in addition to works on canvas that stretch the genres of still life and landscape.
Sean Hages, Wild Aesthetic Interactive Inflatables Garden
Sean Hages is an interdisciplinary artist based in Detroit, predominantly working as an installation artist and sculptor. His award winning artwork is exhibited internationally in a variety of contexts ranging from galleries to music festivals. Participants are transported to an alien world by the massive scale and vibrant colors of these inflatable forms. In contrast with traditional art exhibitions, participants are invited to touch these inflatable works.
Juan Martinez, Articulated Animal Bikes
Juan Martinez creates sculptures that live and work among us, drawing from his experience as a science illustrator and a fabricator working with metal, wood, and other materials. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, MOCAD, and in public and community spaces in Detroit, Los Angeles, and beyond. Juan’s artistic practice is informed by his commitment to community with an emphasis on empowering and equipping Detroit youth for extraordinary futures. Guests will be able to ride down the greenway in the Buffalo or Pangolin bike.
Yazmin Dababneh, YayaLand Takeover
Yazmin Dababneh is an interdisciplinary artist who focuses on creating sculptural work as well as experiences. She has developed a material language by constantly combining and remixing various processes to work through visualizing metaphysical concepts and quantum theories such as the nature of reality and quantum entanglement. Her permanent installation on the Southwest Greenway embodies how immersive and interactive environments can be created or transformed through light explorations.
TEAD ONE Memorial Artist in Residence Program, Graffiti Experience
The TEAD One Artist in Residence Program was launched in January 2021 to promote and strengthen a diverse culture of art by fostering a creative, supporting environment for local adult emerging artists to develop new work and creatively explore new ideas in a safe and inclusive environment. Guests will be able to have their own graffiti experience facilitated by TEAD ONE artists.
Signal Return, Interactive Letterpress Experience
Signal-Return is a Detroit nonprofit dedicated to preserving and teaching traditional letterpress printing, and building a community center for art, craft, design and collaboration. In collaboration with Ouizi, they will create an interactive letterpress activity where guests can print their own piece or art inspired by Ouizi's new mural on the Southwest Greenway.
