Gabriel Richard Park

Gabriel Richard Park is a beloved City of Detroit park, located just east of the Belle Isle Bridge and directly across the Detroit River from Belle Isle. The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy has enhanced the park with a plaza and pavilion, located along the river's edge. This also serves as the eastern most point for the RiverWalk.

Gabriel Richard Park is a peaceful park and the new riverfront plaza and pavilion complement this feel with fountains, fishing outlooks, butterfly gardens and a labyrinth.

The RiverWalk Café has a location at Gabriel Richard Park, currently open for select hours and special occasions.

Labyrinth

Labyrinth

At Gabriel Richard Park, visitors can take a winding tour of a beautifully designed, in-laid brick labyrinth.

To mark its centennial in 2005, the Adcraft Club of Detroit commissioned world-renowned labyrinth designer Martin Kermeen of Chicago-based Labyrinths in Stone to design and build the 35-foot circular labyrinth as the organization's Legacy Project, a gift to the Detroit community. Founded in 1905, Adcraft is the nation's largest local advertising club with nearly 2,500 members representing Detroit's advertising, marketing and media community.

About Labyrinths

Labyrinths and mazes are often confused. A labyrinth is not a maze. A maze is like a puzzle to be solved, a left brain task that requires logical, sequential analytical activity. A labyrinth has only one path. It is unicursal. The way in is the way out and there are no blind alleys. A labyrinth is a right brain task involving reflection, intuition, creativity and imagery. At its most basic level, the labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are.
